Sheet & Post vs. Fiberglass Reinforced Construction 101

When choosing the right truck body construction for your fleet, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each option. Two of the most common methods — Sheet & Post and Fiberglass Reinforced Composite (FRC) — offer very different benefits depending on your needs.

Sheet & Post Construction

Sheet & Post trailers and vans are built with strong, vertical metal posts (usually galvanized steel) and aluminum exterior sheet panels. This traditional design provides exceptional structural support and is easily customizable with shelving, doors and securement systems — such as load bars and logistics tracks — to properly secure cargo of all different sizes and meet unique, specialty requirements.

Key Advantages of Sheet & Post:

Cost-effective and long-lasting performance with a long trailer life

Easier to repair with replaceable panels

Highly customizable, durable and reliable for specialized applications, including tough, heavy-duty jobs

Often lighter than composite alternatives

Go-to design for most custom trailers

Fiberglass Reinforced Composite (FRC) Trailer and Truck Body Construction

FRC trailers and truck bodies are made from seamless, molded composite panels reinforced with fiberglass. One piece wall design can be resistant to rust, offering a clean, smooth exterior ideal for branding, logos and signage.

Key Advantages of FRC:

Lightweight design

Smooth, professional appearance

One-piece construction may be resistant to rust and corrosion

Considerations:

Repairs can be more complex and expensive

May not be ideal for heavy-duty or high-impact use

Which Construction Type is Right for You?

If you’re looking for a tough, affordable solution that’s easy to customize, quick to repair and built for longevity, Sheet & Post may be the right fit. If you need a smooth exterior for common or conventional use FRC may be worth considering. Want to learn more?
